William Coultrup
Bill Coultrup was a renowned career Special Mission Unit Leader in the Joint Special Operations Command. Bill has served more than 30 years in the US Army, with 24 years in Special Forces, with 13 years as a leader in the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC). He led Special Forces soldiers for a total of 10 years in Combat environments.
Bill joined the US Army in 1984 and has served in a variety of combat units. First, he was an Armored Cavalry officer with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in West Germany. In 1989, Bill volunteered to become a Special Forces officer and successfully completed the Special Forces Qualification course as the Distinguished Honor Graduate. Bill returned to West Germany and served in 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne). As a detachment commander, he deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and Operation Provide Comfort in Northern Iraq.
In 1991, Bill volunteered for and was chosen for America’s premier Special Mission Unit at Ft Bragg, where he and spent the next 13 years conducting a variety of strategically important, sensitive missions for the National Command Authority. Some of these included operations in Somalia, Bosnia, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2007, Bill took command of the Joint Special Operations Task Force Philippines, supporting the Government of the Philippines in their conflict against Jemaah Islamiyah and Abu Sayyaf terrorists on Mindanao for 3 years, the only commander to have served for that long. That effort is considered the textbook example of effective interagency, multi spectrum Counter Insurgency (COIN) doctrine in operation.
He then was stationed in Washington, D.C. where he served as the Chief of Legislative Affairs for the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). He represented the USSOCOM Commander and all SOCOM component commands to the United States Congress. During that period, he led the advocacy effort for Special Operations Force Modernization and personnel policies.
Following his military service, Bill was the Director of Special Mission Programs overseeing Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance programs in support of down range operations and training for a U.S. defense contractor. He currently serves as the President of Republic Mission Systems, Inc. and is a Senior Advisor with Republic Consulting, LLC.
